Michael and Brittany Jenkins recently joined The Morning Hustle to share their harrowing experience that has sparked national outrage and conversations about racial profiling. Michael, a successful Black real estate developer, resides in an affluent Ohio neighborhood where the community is predominantly white. However, what should have been a typical evening turned into a traumatic ordeal.

Last November, Michael returned home from work to find a white woman in his driveway. Concerned, he approached her to ask if she needed help. Moments later, the woman bolted from his front porch, screaming for help and claiming she feared for her safety—even after Michael explained that he owned the house.

“We can’t call the police for help,” Michael said during the interview, reflecting on how situations like these can escalate dangerously for Black men. The encounter, which he describes as a clear case of racial profiling, has left a lasting emotional impact on him and his family.

Despite the incident going viral, the woman, whom the Jenkins family referred to as “Karen,” has since embarked on a media tour defending her actions. However, the Jenkins family has yet to receive an apology from her.

“Even if she did apologize, we don’t have to accept it,” Michael and Brittany stated firmly. Their focus is not on seeking an apology but on raising awareness about emotional intelligence and creating opportunities for growth and understanding.

While many neighbors in the exclusive community have shown their support, the Jenkins family revealed they’ve received no response from their HOA, despite multiple attempts to contact them.

The Jenkins family remains hopeful that sharing their story will inspire change. “We want people to learn from this situation and grow,” they said, expressing gratitude for those who have supported them through this difficult time.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges Black homeowners face, even in the most affluent communities, and the urgent need for conversations around racial bias, emotional intelligence, and accountability.
