Look at this! J.R. Smith is back in the news, and this time it’s for a “new” addition to the family—an adorable baby girl! But hold off on the congrats because, plot twist: the mother isn’t his wife!

The retired NBA star, known for both his three-pointers and his three-peats in the rumor mill, took to Instagram to announce the birth. He posted five photos of the little one with her face strategically covered in emojis—because what’s fatherhood without a dash of secrecy?
“Son in Virgo, Born at home, Heart now beats outside of my chest, In love forevermore,” he wrote on IG JR posted.
This isn’t a new fling! 2019, when J.R. was caught shooting his shot off the court with the same woman, actress Candice Patton. His wife, Shirley “Jewel” Smith, took the high road and prayed for them both. And by “high road,” we mean she took to Instagram Live to call out the affair, asking God to bless her husband and his new lady with all the grace in the world.
“My husband, he’s hurting and Candice, Lord Father God, she’s hurting,” Jewel continued, calling out “For her to go out here, Lord Father God, and seek a married man, Father God, I just pray that you give her grace and mercy through all of this. I lift her up.”
Apparently, J.R. didn’t pray hard enough for marital bliss because fast forward to today, and his baby announcement doesn’t feature his wife. Instead, it stars Candice and the couple’s new bundle of joy. J.R. captioned the post with poetic musings about fatherhood and astrology—because nothing says “I’m complicated” like adding the zodiac to your love life drama.
Welp, congrats to J.R. on his newest “assist,” but it looks like he’s still stuck on defense when it comes to his marriage!
