Young Thug RICO Mugshot

In the ongoing YSL RICO trial in Fulton County, rapper Young Thug, legally known as Jeffery Williams, may consider a non-negotiated plea deal. This type of plea, known as a “blind plea” or “open plea,” involves the defendant pleading guilty without a prearranged sentencing agreement with prosecutors. Instead, the judge has full discretion to determine the sentence based on the crime’s severity and the defendant’s history, making it a risky option.

Williams faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to violate RICO, criminal street gang activity, drug possession, firearm possession during a felony, and possession of a machine gun. The trial has been paused since last week due to a prosecutorial error, during which a witness mentioned a hashtag implicating a defendant. Defense attorneys subsequently requested a mistrial, but Judge Paige Reese Whitaker indicated that any granted mistrial would be “without prejudice,” allowing for a retrial.

The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has since been negotiating plea deals with defense teams. Recently, two co-defendants, Rodalius Ryan and Marquavius Huey, accepted plea deals, resulting in reduced sentences.
