Trey Songz has built a reputation for being one of R&B’s most celebrated stars—but also for repeatedly landing in hot water with the law. While he’s managed to evade serious consequences in the past, his latest legal drama might signal the end of his streak.

A Las Vegas judge has ordered the singer to pay over $11 million in damages to Tyrelle Dunn, a Maryland Capitol police officer who claims he was assaulted by Songz and his security team in 2021. According to court documents, Dunn was trying to rescue his wife from Songz’s hotel room at The Cosmopolitan when the incident occurred. The altercation allegedly left Dunn with fractured eye sockets, scarring, and missed work—injuries that the massive payout is intended to cover.

This case stems from an incident during Songz’s 37th birthday celebration in November 2021, where he allegedly brought a group of women back to his room. Dunn’s wife reportedly screamed for help, claiming she was being held against her will, prompting Dunn’s intervention. While Songz was cleared of any criminal charges in 2022, the civil lawsuit stuck—and his failure to respond led to this default judgment.
This isn’t the first time Trey Songz has been entangled in controversy. From altercations with police to accusations of misconduct, the “Bottoms Up” artist has faced numerous allegations over the years. But with an $11 million judgment now hanging over his head, it seems his pattern of escaping accountability might be coming to an end.
For years, Songz has walked a fine line between fame and scandal. But as his legal troubles mount, the question remains—how much longer can he avoid the consequences?
