'Sound Check with Jeremy Hecht' Ep. 2

Last week, UPROXX Studios introduced their new series ‘Sound Check with Jeremy Hecht,’ with DaBaby as the first featured guest. Today (March 26th), Grammy-nominated rapper G-Eazy joined Jeremy for the second episode of the weekly interview series revealing your favorite artist’s musical taste. Each high-stakes, 12-round episode features a carefully curated playlist of impossible choices, unearthing some never-before-heard stories and creative influences. When presented with classics from two New York Rap GOATs—”99 Problems” by Jay-Z and “N.Y. State of Mind” by Nas—G-Eazy picked Nas. “Man the impact of Illmatic, and now I’m living in New York…That song, it just paints such a vivid picture of the city. The dark undertones of the music, those boom bap drums and just his vivid imagery in his lyrics and just how he paints that picture.” said G-Eazy.

Later, as a nod to his collaborations with amazing female artists, G-Eazy had to choose between classic tracks from generational talents—“Feeling Good” by Nina Simone and “Birds Of A Feather” by Billie Eilish. G-Eazy spoke on why he picked Nina Simone by saying, “That’s my favorite artist of all time probably. There’s such a piercing truthfulness in her voice that comes through, just like a brutal honesty…something that’s so human, and so beautiful and so pained also. I could talk about Nina this whole interview.” Finding out that G-Eazy was a diehard Nina Simone was definitely not on anyone’s bingo card.

In the final round, Hecht flipped the script and turned the tables on himself by attempting to guess the track G-Eazy says represents his entire life. Given two options—”The Passenger” by Iggy Pop and “Vans” by The Pack—Hecht correctly guessed “The Passenger.” When asked why he picked that song, G-Eazy answered “That’s one of my favorite favorite favorite songs of all time. Any mood. That sh-t just bangs. David Bowie wrote and produced it with him, and it’s an interesting time in Iggy Pop’s career arc. It’s kind of a lifelong anthem when you listen to the lyrics”
