Ashanti is getting dragged  after Nelly decided to show his support for the 47th president, Donald Trump, by performing at his inauguration. The internet is now split on whether celebrities who publicly back Trump should be canceled. One of Ashanti’s fan pages on Instagram, @AshantiNews, shut down in protest of her and Nelly’s support for Trump. The page’s last post read, “In light of recent news about Nelly and the decisions he has made… I can no longer run @AshantiNews or support The Haynes in the direction they are going. It’s beyond disappointing. For over 20 years, it’s been amazing connecting Ashanti fans around the world and sharing news, videos, and photos. I will miss a lot of you! Take care.”

Nelly isn’t the only one under fire. Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg also participated in events honoring Trump over the weekend, leaving their comment sections in chaos. Steven A. Smith tried to defend the rappers but got dragged too, with comments like, “Sir, we’ve been canceled you.”

On his podcast, Smith stood up for the artists, arguing that the backlash against Nelly, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, and Soulja Boy for performing at the Crypto Ball ahead of Trump’s official proceedings was unfair. He explained why some might have voted for Trump and defended Soulja Boy for securing the bag. He also praised Snoop Dogg for his contributions through the Snoop Youth Football League.

“This brother is sending kids to college, sending them to the NFL, and we’re just going to ignore that because he performed at the inauguration?” Smith asked, before bringing up how people turned against Ice Cube after he met with Trump in 2020 to discuss his “Contract with Black America” plan. He concluded, “Now that these brothers have made something of themselves and are taking opportunities, whether they choose to be apolitical or not, you want to get on their case?”

This presidency is sure to be an entertaining one.
